Department: Operations
Reports Directly to: HSSE and Operations Manager
Working within a multidisciplinary team set in a remote environment with the aim of improving the health status of workers through the provision of comprehensive and culturally valid primary health care services. The Ambulance Driver reports to the Clinical Officer and is responsible for maintaining the vehicle in a state of preparedness and good condition for immediate response. The driver is also responsible for always ensuring patient safety and road safety.
Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the physical security of the vehicle.
- The daily maintenance of vehicles and of any accessories supplied with the vehicle.
- Ensuring full onboard documentation.
- Knowing how to use onboard equipment such as 4×4, radios, or winches.
- Knowing how to change a wheel.
- Completing routine maintenance checks.
- Operating vehicles in a manner that maximizes the safety of passengers and other road users.
- Complying with all local road laws, field safety regulations, and appropriate customs.
- Complying with all security directives.
- Maintaining the vehicle’s log sheet.
- Ensuring that the vehicle has sufficient fuel.
- Maintaining the external and internal cleanliness of the vehicle.
- Prepare a daily vehicle checklist and submit it to the Administration Manager.
- Able to carry out limited, un-supervised tasks
- Required to be part of and participate in the Emergency Response Team under the direction of the Emergency Response Coordinator.
Educational & Experience
Professional/Academic Qualification
- Valid driving license Class; B, CM, DL.
- Minimum 5 years’ work as a professional driver.
- No road safety-related fines or convictions.
- Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Valid certification in Blue Light Training.
- Valid certification in Defensive Driver Training.
- Valid certification in Patient Handling.
- Valid vision and hearing tests.
Critical skills
- Good written and spoken English.
- Good knowledge of the operation and components of vehicles.
- Good communication skills and problem-solving abilities
- Thorough knowledge of road rules and regulations.
- Safe/defensive driving skills.
- Basic mechanical knowledge is of benefit
- Skills in routine vehicle maintenance.
- Knowledge (or ability to quickly learn) of HF, VHF, and satellite communications equipment
Other requirements:
- Proof of Hepatitis B Immunity and COVID vaccination status.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
- Medical Fitness Certificate for remote site work.
