JOB CONTENT
Working within a multidisciplinary team set in a remote environment with the aim of improving the health status of site personnel through the provision of comprehensive and culturally valid primary health care services. Reporting to the Emergency Physician/Lead, responsibilities include assessing, diagnosing, and treating injuries, illnesses, and disorders, and prescribing medications. Required to be part of and participate in the Emergency Response Team under the direction of the Emergency Response Coordinator.
Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Knowledge and experience in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of illnesses and those relating to workplace activities.
- Examining patients, taking medical histories, addressing patients’ concerns, and answering patients’ questions.
- Evaluating patient’s symptoms and determining the most appropriate course of treatment to address them.
- Ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests and explaining the results to patients.
- Consulting with other physicians, referring patients to specialists when necessary, and working with other healthcare staff, such as nurses, clinicians, and other support staff.
- Prescribing medications in compliance with professional standards and best clinical practice.
- Maintain regularly updated patient medical records that document all evaluations, medications, treatments, allergies, test results, and other records in line with GDPR/HIPAA best practices utilizing the UHC MedDBase EMR system.
- Supervise and evaluate Clinical Officers and Nursing staff to ensure full compliance with regulations and make sure that it is in line with best clinical practice and company policies and procedures.
- Participate in local community health initiatives as directed and agreed by the Emergency Physician/Lead.
Emergency Response
- Must be competent in triage and provide appropriate emergency response treatment to ill and injured patients.
- Must be competent in the management and transportation of injured or sick personnel including but not limited to project locations, at height, and in confined spaces.
- Provide ongoing injury management to project personnel at the site and coordinate the provision of these services in the hospitals.
- Required to assist in the development and training of the Site Emergency Response Team.
- Oversee ambulance drivers in their duties ensuring vehicle checks, restocking, and cleaning have been undertaken.
Health Awareness
- Participate in health and wellness initiatives.
- Presentation of health promotion programs to include heat stress management.
- Counseling patients on diet, hygiene, preventative healthcare, and other lifestyle changes.
Occupational Health
- Oversee and assist in vaccination programs.
- Review pre-mobilization health and medical assessments from external clinicians and partake in and review Fitness for Work assessments for personnel.
- Participate in occupational hygiene monitoring under the direction of the occupational hygiene group.
Health and Safety
- Oversee and monitor the Drug and Alcohol screening program.
- Provide appropriate training to emergency response teams.
- Undertake regular HSE audits and inspections of medical facilities.
- Have a good understanding of the management of Infection Control as there is an increased risk due to the high-density population.
- Have a good understanding of and be compliant with OSHA reporting guidelines
Education & Experience
Professional/Academic Qualification
- Registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioner Council (UMoH).
- Valid license to practice and hold a certificate of good standing from the UMoH.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- Advanced Trauma Life Support.
- Major Incident Medical Management and Support (MIMMs).
- First Aid Training Instructor.
- Drug and Alcohol Screening.
- Competent computer skills (Microsoft Office).
- Experienced in emergency medicine management.
- Proven ability to provide a high standard of clinical care.
- Competency in psychological counseling.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
