JOB CONTENT

The primary function of this position is to provide high-quality clinical practice including assessment, examination, treatment, and case management. Working within a multidisciplinary team set in a remote environment with the aim of improving the health status of workers through the provision of comprehensive and culturally valid primary health care services.

The Radiology Technician will support the clinical team, in the initial patient evaluation, by capturing high-quality images for evidentiary data for all Imaging, diagnostic modalities, quality procedures and controls, and for patient management. The Radiology Technician will report to the Emergency Physician/Lead.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability and willingness to learn new techniques and procedures are added to the Imaging section from time to time.
  • Ability to handle or process confidential documents or material appropriately.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
  • Operate the X-ray, Ultrasound, and CT scan machine.
  • Ensure all machines are approved by Atomic Energy.
  • Carry out X-rays, Ultrasounds, and CT scans as per physician orders, and seek the Radiologist for technical review of findings and report writing when necessary.
  • Teach others when requested the proper aspects of imaging studies.
  • Participate in CME activities as may be organized in and outside of the hospital.
  • Participate in local community health initiatives as directed and agreed by the Emergency Physician/Lead.

Stock Management

  • Proper storage of X-ray equipment, resources, and record maintenance.
  • Requisitions for supplies necessary for X-ray equipment and resources keeping records of their inventory and use.
  • Manage the supplies and maintenance of machinery associated with X-rays, services, and equipment.

Coordination

  • Adhere to associated legislation and Ministry of Health standards of patient care, treatment protocols, and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff to ensure successful patient care from every discipline within the clinic.

On Call

  • Provide 24/7 coverage as required.

Maintenance

  • Maintenance of machinery associated with X-ray service.
  • Report any malfunction of equipment to the Senior Medical Doctor and Administration Manager as soon as possible.

Occupational Health and Safety

  • To have the policy to help safeguard the principle of as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP), the health and safety of all persons who may be exposed to ionizing radiation.
  • Ensure that the clinic restricts radiation exposure.
  • Ensure, that everyone working with ionizing radiation sources has a duty in law to protect themselves and others from the hazards of their work. Everyone needs to be familiar with his/her responsibilities as required in the regulations contained in these local rules.
  • As a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the regulations contained in the radiation safety rules are fully observed. As per Atomic Energy regulations.
  • Ensure the wearing of Radiation tags to monitor exposure.
  • First contact for queries related to radiation protection.
  • Work in such a way that does not cause injury to themselves, other staff members, or customers.
  • Follow and comply with Health and Safety policies, and processes and apply them to work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.
  • Participate in activities directed at preventing harm and promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting, and self-managing hazards where appropriate.
  • Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified.
  • Undertake other official-related duties that may be assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in radiography from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered and hold a valid current Allied Health Professional Council Uganda practicing license.
  • Radiation Protection Supervisor.
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in a busy clinical radiography department.
  • Excellent radiography skills following good clinical practice guidelines.
  • Competent computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Proven ability to provide a high standard of professional care.
  • Experience in remote primary and emergency care is advantageous.

N.B. Ensure, that women of reproductive capacity have a special responsibility in that they must immediately inform either their administrative superior or the head of the unit as soon as they know that they are pregnant so that steps can be taken to ensure that the dose to the fetus does not exceed the maximum permissible level.
