High Blood Pressure Awareness Month

Did you know that nearly 1 in 4 adults in Uganda has high blood pressure—and many don’t know it? May is a High Blood Pressure Awareness Month.

Hypertension is a “silent killer” that increases risk of stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure. Since it has no early symptoms, regular checks are the only way to detect it. However, in some cases, some people may experience: Headaches (especially in the morning), Dizziness or blurred vision, Nosebleeds (rare but possible), Chest pain or irregular heartbeat, Fatigue or confusion etc

Since symptoms aren’t reliable, the only way to know your blood pressure status is to measure it regularly. That’s why screenings are so important—especially if you have risk factors like stress, poor diet, lack of exercise, or family history.

At Case Hospital, we help patients manage their blood pressure through regular screenings, tailored treatment plans, and lifestyle coaching. You can walk into any of our clinics and get your blood pressure checked in under ten minutes covered by your insurance policy.

To keep your blood pressure low, maintain a healthy weight, eat a low-sodium diet rich in fruits and vegetables, exercise regularly (at least 30 minutes most days of the week), manage stress, and avoid smoking or excessive alcohol use. If you’re on medication, take it consistently as prescribed.

If you already have high blood pressure: Don’t panic—hypertension can be controlled. Follow up regularly with your doctor, monitor your readings at home, take your medication faithfully, and adopt heart-healthy habits. With proper care and discipline, you can live a long, healthy life.

This month, we invite you to our outpatient clinic for a blood pressure screening. Take control of your health—start with your heart.
